What is the organization of the nitrocarburizing layer

The structure of steel material after nitrocarburizing treatment below 600°C is almost the same as that of the nitrided layer. Due to the effect of carbon, the composition of the compound layer has changed. Carbon steel and cast iron workpieces from the outside to the inside are: Fe2-3 (N, C)-based compound layer containing Fe4N, and diffusion layer with γ´ needle precipitation (Diffused phase precipitation layer) and a transition layer dominated by nitrogen-containing ferrite α (N). In alloy steel, it also contains alloy nitrides of chromium, aluminum, molybdenum, titanium and other elements combined with nitrogen.
