What is the purpose of carburizing
The purpose of carburizing is to obtain high carbon content on the surface of low-carbon steel or low-carbon and medium-carbon alloy structural steel, and then quenching and tempering to obtain a high hardness and wear-resistant carburized layer, so that the core of the workpiece Maintain high strength and toughness. Therefore, the carburizing process is characterized by heating and insulating the workpiece with low carbon content in a medium that has the ability to increase carbon and containing activated carbon atoms, so that the activated carbon atoms can penetrate into the surface of the workpiece, and under the action of the carbon concentration gradient, The carbon atoms diffuse inward from the surface to form a diffusion layer with the required thickness and carbon concentration, that is, the carburized layer. For most small and medium-sized parts, the depth of the carburized layer is generally 0.80~1.20mm, and the mass fraction of carbon is 0.70%~0.90%.
According to the state of carburizing medium and furnace type, it can be divided into gas carburizing, liquid carburizing, solid carburizing, ion carburizing and vacuum carburizing. Among them, gas carburizing is the most widely used.
